When one thinks of hypnosis, the tendency is to imagine something along the lines of a studious
gentleman standing in front of us dangling an old-fashioned pocket watch and speaking in a low,
soothing voice. In actuality, we are constantly hypnotising ourselves, planting sub-conscious
suggestions in every waking moment. A typical day of self-hypnotic suggestion might consist of the
following :-
If i don't get out of bed soon, I will be late for work and the boss will be annoyed.
I must remember to buy some more toilet paper in my lunch break.
i really fancy that secretary but I don't think she will be interested in me.
If i do approach her, she will laugh out loud and i will be the laughing stock of the office.
I'd love to change my job but I'm not very good at making money.

We do this sort of stuff all the time. Most of the time we are not conscious of it, but it is having a very real and very powerful effect on us.
